Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of alleged rape of a woman from Odisha in New Delhi, rights activists have moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking its direction to the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
Advocate and human rights activist Radhakant Tripathy and rights activist Jayanta Kumar Das have lodged complaint with the NHRC for steps to ensure proper probe into the incident.
Accusing the government of Delhi of failing to take precautions and preventive measures even after the Nirbhaya case, Tripathy urged the Commission to investigate the case independently and impartially.
The NHRC has also been requested to issue directions for the rehabilitation of the victim with proper medical care and compensation.
Das urged the Commission to direct the Delhi State Legal Services Authority to provide Rs ten lakh to the survivor as per the NALSA Compensation Scheme for Women Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault/other Crimes – 2018.
As per reports, a 34-year-old woman, stated to be a nursing graduate from Odisha, was allegedly raped by unknown miscreants who later dumped the victim in a semi-conscious state in Sarai Kale Khan area of southeast Delhi on the intervening night of October 10 and 11.
The woman was rescued by the police team and took her to AIIMS Trauma Center where she is undergoing treatment.
The Delhi Police has reportedly registered a case against unknown miscreants under sections 70(1) [gang rape] and 115(2) [voluntarily causing hurt] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Multiple teams have been formed to apprehend the alleged culprits involved in the brutal incident.
