Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall in Odisha since Saturday night has triggered flood threats with the rise in the water level of major rivers.
According to information received from the Central Water Commission (CWC) at 9 am on Monday, the water levels of Devi at Alipingal, Kushabhadra at Nimapara, Brahmani at Jenapur, Baitarani at Anandpur and Akhuapada, Subarnarekha at Jamsholaghat and Rajghat, Vanshadhara at Gunupur, Rushikulya at Purushottampur and Jalaka at Mathani are on the rise.
In view of the rise in the water level of Mahanadi, Brahmani and Baitarani rivers, the CWC has issued an advisory to the respective district administrations.
Keeping the alarming rise in the water level of Brahmani and its tributaries, the Collectors of Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Jajpur districts have been asked to remain on high alert.
Besides, the Collectors of Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts have been alerted due to the rise in the water level of Baitarani.
Apart from this, due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the Collectors of Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda and Balangir districts have been alerted.
According to the latest report received from the district control room, the water level of Jalaka has crossed the danger mark (5.5 metres) at Mathani in Balasore.
