New Delhi: The counting of votes for by-polls to four Lok Sabha seats and 10 Assembly constituencies began on Thursday morning.
Early counting in Kairana Lok Sabha constituency, a stronghold of the BJP, shows RJD leader Tabassum Hasan leading by over 3000 votes over BJP’s Mriganka Singh.
Similarly, in Karnataka’s RR Nagar Assembly, where the polls were postponed after stacks of voter ID cards were found, shows that Congress candidate Munirathna is leading by 8,680 votes.
However, in Maharashtra, BJP’s Gavit Rajendra Dhedya is leading from Palghar Lok Sabha seat. Shiv Sena, who had pitted a candidate against its ally BJP in Bhandara-Gondiya, is trailing.
After the first round of counting, Congress candidate Laddi Sherowalia is leading by around 2,000 votes in Punjab’s Shahkot assembly-by poll.
From Tharali Assembly seat in Uttarakhand, BJP has gained lead by 339 votes.
In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress’s candidate Dulal Chandra Das is leading by over 10,000 votes from Maheshtala.
These polls are being seen as a litmus test for all the political parties, before the country goes for General elections next year.
