Khurda: A 5-year-old boy died while his mother sustained critical injuries after a tanker truck rammed into their scooter near Bhaliabadi Chhak on NH-57 in Odisha’s Khurda district on Tuesday.
The deceased boy has been identified as Binayak Das, an LKG student of a private school at BDA Colony in Khurda town.
According to sources, the accident took place when Baijayanti Das of Gandhi Padia was returning home along with her 5-year-old son from school on her scooter. The truck ran over her son killing him on the spot. The injured woman was taken toKhurda district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment.
The locals managed to nab the truck driver while attempting to flee the spot, and later staged a road blockade for a speed breaker on the main road, disrupting the vehicular traffic on either side of the NH.
Khurda Additional SP Kishore Chandra Mund rushed the accident site and attempts are on to pacify the agitators.
