Balasore: As normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of Odisha following incessant rain, a road in Basta area of Balasore district caved in on Thursday triggering panic among people.
As per information, around 500-metre stretch of the concrete road at Baiganbadia under Basta block of the district caved in as heavy downpour triggered by a low pressure pounded the district.
Sources said the incident has created panic among people in the area, while heavy rain continued to batter the district, which was severely affected by floods recently.
Villages in at least ten panchayats under Basta block and three panchayats of Sadar block have been affected by the fresh spell of rainfall. The water level in Jalaka river also continued to rise menacingly, locals said.
They expressed the fear that water level of Subarnarekha river may cross the danger mark if the rain continues with same intensity, while vast areas of agricultural land still remained submerged with water.
