Bhubaneswar: Deaths caused by road accidents in Odisha fell by 43.5% during the four-month lockdown period between April and July, the State Transport Authority (STA) informed on Wednesday.
As per STA data, as against 1853 deaths during April-July in 2019, the number came down to 1048 during the corresponding period this year.
A comparison of the two-year data further reveals that road accident deaths decreased by 30% between January and July. While 2401 were killed in 5125 accidents in the first seven months this year, there were 3426 deaths in 6690 accidents between January and July 2019.
As for month-by-month comparison, number of deaths was down by 74% in April, 42% in May, 18% in June and 19% in July.
