Hyderabad: Accepting rampant corruption in government offices, a municipal council chairperson in Telangana admitted at a press conference that it was a habit to “get a cut” from contractors for taking up projects.
According to a report filed by NDTV, Sircilla municipal council chairperson Samala Pavani said “the minister” is also aware of the situation.
“We go and break coconuts, inaugurate, should we not get a cut? What else is there for us in it?” the lady is seen telling in a video of the press conference.
“1-3 per cent cut on every contract is a routine matter and is common across Telangana. If they pay up the commission responsibly, there won’t be a problem. So many projects worth crores of rupees have been taken up in Sircilla. Why make people unhappy?” she was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Though Pavani has not named the “Minister,” K T Rama Rao, son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is under the lens as he holds the portfolio of municipal administration and urban development department.
Hours after the video started doing the rounds, she resigned from the post of Sircilla municipal council chairperson, citing personal reasons.
