Bhubaneswar: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in an incident of stone pelting at a passenger train in Odisha’s Khurda district.
According to a press release of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Friday, the incident took place on the evening of June 6 when stones were pelted at Kamakhya-Bengaluru Express near Nirakarpur in the district.
On being informed about the incident, the RPF of Khurda Road launched an investigation. During the investigation in coordination with the train’s Ticket Examiner (TTE), it was confirmed that the incident took place between Golabai and Nirakarpur railway stations in Balugaon-Khurda Road railway section of Howrah-Chennai mainline operated by the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
A team from the RPF, went to the identified area and detained two persons, identified as Ramesh Majhi from Golabai village and Sadasib Pradhan from Nakula Patna village under Jankia police station in Khurda district. The detained persons were found in an inebriated condition near the railway track.
During questioning, they confessed to consuming alcohol and engaging in the reckless act of throwing stones at a passing train. Both offenders failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their presence in the vicinity of the train tracks.
The RPF has registered a case against Ramesh and Sadasib for grave breach of railway safety under Sections 153, 147, and 145(b) of the Railway Act.
