Malkangiri : Police seized more than two quintals of ganja worth Rs 2 crore from an auto-rickshaw in the district and arrested two persons on Wednesday night.
Speaking to media persons, Chitrakonda SDPO Anshuman Dwibedi said while Chitrakonda police were conducting night patrolling in the area, they suspected the movement of an auto-rickshaw at Rajulkonda Chhak.
After intercepting the auto-rickshaw, police searched the vehicle and found ganja packed in polythene bags being smuggled. They seized 210 kg of ganja which is estimated to cost Rs 2 crore from the auto-rickshaw.
The police also arrested two persons travelling in the vehicle. They were identified as Ajaya Machha of Beniaguda village and Krushna Machha of Panjabi Chhak under Chitrakonda police limits. They revealed to the police that they were smuggling the contraband to Andhra Pradesh.
A mobile phone, two Aadhaar Cards and Rs 25,550 in cash were seized from their possession, the SDPO said.
A case has been registered at Chitrakonda police station and the accused have been forwarded to court.
