Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has lodged an FIR against former Deputy Secretary Nirmal Chandra Nayak and former caretaker Pradeep Samal over alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of around Rs 2 crore.
The FIR was lodged at the Purighat police station.
Nayak is accused of embezzling the funds while working as deputy secretary and officer-in-charge of Kalyan Mandap and Saheed Bhawan.
It is alleged that from February 1, 2009 till his retirement in 2012 and again during his re-employment (July 18, 2012 to July 7, 2016), Nayak embezzled municipal funds of over Rs 2 crore.
It is further alleged that Nayak carried out the fraud in connivance with Samal. Duplicate receipts were issued regarding booking of Kalyan Mandap and Saheed Bhawan and official records tampered with. The scam was unearthed in 2016 during an audit.
Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said, “We have received a complaint and further investigation will be carried out in connection with the incident.”
