Bhubaneswar: RTI activist Pradip Pradhan has been arrested by Bhubaneswar Mahila Police station in connection with a complaint lodged by sprinter Dutee Chand two years ago, police said on Sunday.
According to reports, athlete Dutee Chand had filed a complaint with the police against some people alleging that they were mentally harassing her over her performance in the last Olympics. Pradhan’s name was also reportedly mentioned in that complaint.
Pradhan was initially detained on Saturday for questioning in connection with the case. He was subsequently arrested on Sunday by the police.
Apart from being an RTI activist, Pradhan also happens to be the Secretary of the political outfit ‘Mo Dala’.
As per information, Dutee had moved the Orissa High Court seeking action against Pradhan for sharing a post of a digital channel criticising her for poor Olympic performance. Hearing the matter, the High Court had ordered the police to take action against Pradhan.
Following his arrest, several workers of Mo Dala, RTI activists, social workers, and journalists reached the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar and raised questions over the arrest made two months after the HC order.
Sprinter Dutee Chand, on her part, has expressed happiness over the arrest of Pradhan.
