New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to dial Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday night to discuss the Ukrainian invasion, ndtv.com reported.
Modi chaired a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to take stock of the situation and determine what will be India’s stand. The other issue on the agenda was ways to avert possible crisis caused by rising crude oil prices, the report said.
Among those who were part of the meeting were senior ministers like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman.
The US, UK, France and other western nations have come out in criticism of Putin’s decision to launch a military offensive on a neighbouring country.
India and Russia have close ties, but under the circumstances New Delhi may have to take a tough call. Some political analysts say Modi will try to impress on Putin about the importance of avoiding war and bloodshed.
Ukraine’s envoy to India has said ‘Modi ji’ could play a favourable role in dissuading Russia.
