Rayagada: Passengers of the Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express train were in a state of panic after the engine derailed near Keutaguda railway station in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place around 5.16 pm when 18005 Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express train was on its way to Jagdalpur.
Informing the media soon after the incident, chief public relations officer (CPRO) of East Coast Railway (ECoR) J P Mishra confirmed that the two front wheels of the engine had derailed while all the bogies of the express train are on the track.
“There is no loss of life,” he said, adding that an accident relief train (ART) from Rayagada railway station has been rushed to the mishap site. After reaching the mishap site, the ART will bring back all the bogies to the Rayagada railway station.
Asked about the time it will take to restore railway traffic on the route, Mishra said since this is a single-line route, train service on the route would resume after the engine is removed from the track.
