Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Sanjeeb Panda on Monday took charge as the Police Commissioner of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He took over charge from Saumendra Priyadarshi at a function held at the Commissionerate Police headquarters in Bhubaneswar.
Panda, a 1994-batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre, worked in various capacities in the state Police. He has served as the Superintendent of Police at Puri and Rourkela and the DIG in the South-Western range, Personnel IG, and IG OASAP. He also served as the ADG of the Crime Branch, Transport Commissioner, and the Director of Intelligence.
Speaking to the media, Panda expressed the hope that people will extend support to the police to discharge its duties more efficiently.
Describing the upcoming elections as among the immediate challenges before the Commissionerate Police, he said efforts will be taken to ensure that 5T and Mo Sarkar initiatives of the state government are properly implemented so that police can reach nearer to the people and offer better services.
Panda said that apart from law and order and cybercrime, protecting weaker sections of society and women and children will be given special attention.
Outgoing Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi said that he received proper cooperation from the people during his tenure in the twin-cities.
