Balangir: A Sarpanch was allegedly assaulted by a government official after he pointed certain ‘irregularities’ in some projects being executed under the 5T initiative in Odisha’s Balangir district.
The incident reportedly took place when the Sarpanch alleged that the quality of work for the projects was poor at the famous Shaivite shrine at Harishankar.
As per reports, president of Khaprakhol Block Sarpanch Association, Sushil Guru visited the site and mentioned about alleged irregularities and poor quality of work. Infuriated by this, SDO of the Public works Department (PWD), Siddharth Das allegedly attacked the Sarpanch.
A complaint in this connection has been filed at the Khaprakhol Police Station.
Following the FIR, the official also made a counter-allegation, claiming that he was also attacked by Sushil.
As several developmental works are being undertaken at the Harishankar shrine, Sushil reached the site and alleged that there was substandard construction.
The PWD SDO, who was present at the site, reportedly got furious and attacked Sushil. A video of the incident went viral and evoked sharp reactions from various quarters.
Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the incident.
