Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials on Monday resumed the eviction drive in Ranihat canal road area to expedite the expansion and redevelopment project of SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Hind cinema hall and other shops located at Ranihat will be evicted. Two platoons of police force have been deployed to avert any untoward incident, sources said.
“I own a repairing shop here. It is a 45-year-old shop and I have been managing it for the last 20 years. I feels bad to be evicted from this place but the district administration has promised us to provide us space elsewhere and also compensation,” said a shopkeeper.
In October, the government had asked seven of its departments to shift their offices in the next two months to expedite the work. January 1, 2024, is the deadline for the project being undertaken at an expenditure of Rs 3,500 crore for transformation of the premier medical college of the state.
The first-phase proposal for 3,500-bed hospital includes four new clinical blocks, 1,280 residential units spread over three locations for doctors and staff, five hostel buildings and two dharmasalas having 1,100 beds for accommodation of attendants. A budget hotel on a 1.5 acre adjacent to the existing SCB campus on the east side of Taladanda canal for patients’ accommodation.
The administration has also approved a rehabilitation package for the people, business establishments and other organizations to be evicted for the expansion work.
