Bhubaneswar: Schools in 12 districts, where a warning for heavy rainfall has been issued, will remain closed till Tuesday, informed School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Monday.

These districts are Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur and Bargarh.

Meanwhile, the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast intensified into a deep depression and crossed the coast near Chandbali, early this morning. The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, north Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours, the IMD said.

Odisha has been witnessing incessant rainfall due to the depression over the Bay of Bengal since last afternoon. Puri received the height-ever recorded rainfall of 341 mm between 8.30 am of September 12 and 8.30 am of September 13, while Bhubaneswar breached the 63-year-old record with 195 mm rainfall.
