Bhubaneswar: With rain coupled with gusty surface wind continuing to lash Odisha under the impact of Cyclone Dana, the administrations of six districts have announced the extension of holidays for school students.
Amid inclement weather, the administration decided to keep the schools shut in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, and Keonjhar.
As per information, schools for Class I to X will remain shut for the day in Bhadrak district. Bhadrak district collector Dillip Routray made the announcement of closure of schools in a notification on Friday. The district administration in Jajpur has also announced that all schools and Anganwadi Centres will remain closed on Saturday due to forecast of heavy rain.
Similarly, all schools will remain closed until further orders in Mayurbhanj.
Sources said schools in Keonjhar and Kendrapada districts also remained closed as rainfall activity persisted. As most of the schools have been functioning as shelter homes and housing people evacuated from vulnerable areas, the District Collectors have announced a holiday for students.
This apart, Anganwadi centers will also remain closed in the districts most affected by the cyclone.
Besides schools, but colleges have also announced holidays in the Balasore district. However, colleges in the other four districts will function with precautionary measures in place for college-goers.
The state government had earlier announced the closure of schools for three days, from October 23 to 25 in 14 districts in view of Cyclone Dana.
