Kochi: A second case of Mpox was confirmed on Wednesday.
The virus has been detected in a man who recently travelled to Kerala from the UAE, state Health Minister Veena George informed.
The 38-year-old man from Malappuram was isolated after showing Mpox symptoms on arrival from abroad, and is undergoing treatment at the state-run Manjeri Medical College, reported The Times of India.
The Health minister appealed to people arriving from other countries to inform Health department and seek treatment if anyone experienced Mpox-related symptoms.
Sharing a list of hospitals and phone numbers of nodal officers in her post on Facebook, George stated that treatment and isolation facilities have been arranged in following state government hospitals.
Treatment facilities have been arranged in all medical colleges, she added.
The first confirmed Mpox case in India was detected in a person who had travelled from Africa to Bengaluru.
The Central government has announced measures to guard against a possible outbreak, while airports have put in place safety protocols.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) last month declared the recent outbreak of the virus, mostly in Africa and specifically in Democratic Republic of Congo, as a public health emergency of international concern.
