Balasore: In a major breakthrough, police here on Saturday arrested seven members of a motorcycle-lifting gang and recovered 60 stolen bikes from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team led by IIC of Sahadevkhunta police station Pragyan Mohanty and IIC of Rupsa police station Ashok Nayak nabbed the bike-lifters and recovered the stolen motorcycles following raids at different places in Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and West Bengal, police sources said.
Balasore SP Niti Sekhar said the gang had been operating since 2010. “They used to steal motorcycles from busy areas like bus stands and railway stations by using a master key and sell these in rural areas at low cost ranging from Rs 8,000- Rs 15,000 after changing the number plates.”
Further investigation is on and efforts are being made to trace the owners of the stolen motorcycles, he added.
