Subarnapur: Police on Friday night unearthed a sex racket at Birmaharajpur in the district and detained two youth and two other girls brought from Bhubaneswar to a reform home for women.
According to police sources, the racketeers were under police scanner for quite some time. They were suspected to have brought young girls from various parts of Odisha to appease their clients.
A police patrolling team led by sub-inspector Bijay Barik caught the four accused after a hot chase at Birmaharajpur junction. They were speeding away in two motorcycles, it is learnt. The detained youth were identified as Suresh Meher (28) of Subalaya and Dipak Mishra (31) of Dharmasala area.
A case has been registered (188/21) and it is being investigated by station officer Anjali Kumbhar. The police also seized two bikes, two condom packets and two mobile phones from their possession. Women from Sambalpur, Balangir, Bargarh and Subarnapur are said to be roped into the racket, the police said.
The two girls have been sent to reform home while the youth have been forwarded to the court.
