Jajpur: Police have arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s family at Mangalapur police station, she had gone to purchase some grocery items from a shop in the area on Sunday morning. Finding the girl, a student of Class IX, alone, shop-owner Rabinarayan Sahu dragged her inside and raped her.
As the girl did not return home for a long time, her mother went to the shop to enquire about her. She found her daughter crying inside while Sahu was absconding. The girl told her mother about the incident.
On returning home, girl’s mother along with other family members went to Mangalapur police station and registered a complaint against Sahu.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and started investigation. A police team headed by IIC Chinmayee Sahu also launched a manhunt to trace Sahu. The team found the shop owner hiding in a place and arrested him.
Sahu has been sent to a hospital for medical examination and will be forwarded to the court after processing the documents, the IIC said.
