Bhubaneswar: Two youths were arrested in two different cases of outraging the modesty of girls and then brazenly posting the obscene videos online in Odisha.

The first case was reported from Mayurbhanj district, where a spurned lover allegedly raped a college girl and then posted obscene photos and video of the crime on social media. In the other incident in Balsore district, a gang of miscreants thrashed, stripped and photographed a girl at a beach and posted a video online of the shameful act.

Mayurbhanj police said they have detained one Lemba (23) of Jamda village near Gorumahisani for allegedly raping a girl.

According to police, Lemba had one-side love with the victim. He had proposed to her several times, but she rejected his overtures. She also her parents and they warned the youth to stay away from her.

The spurned youth then plotted revenge. One day he accosted the girl when she was returning from college, dragged her to a nearby forest and raped her. He also took photographs and a video and threatened to post them online if the victim opened her mouth to anyone.

The frightened girl did as she was told and suffered the trauma in silence.

Four months after the incident, however, Lemba posted the rape photos and video of the girl on social media on August 5. After the video went viral, the girl’s father lodged a complaint at Gorumahisani police station.

Following the complaint, police arrested the youth and sent the victim for a medical test.

In Balsore, police on Sunday detained a youth for his alleged involvement in beating and molesting a college student at Talasari beach in Bhograi block a day earlier.

Police said they had identified the accused from the videos he and his friends made viral. Police said they were interrogating the youth and also hunting for his associates.

According to sources, Talasari Marine police had launched a probe into the incident after a case was registered regarding the same.

Notably, the contemptible act took place while the victim along with a classmate was roaming on the beach on a motorcycle. Suddenly, the students were intercepted by three bike-borne youths, who were in an inebriated state.

The situation worsened after the miscreants not only thrashed the duo but also physically assaulted the girl and stripped off her clothes.

They also took pictures of the incident. It is also alleged that the miscreants demanded money from the duo in order to let the girl go.

The matter came to light after the video of the incident emerged on various social media platforms following which villagers and Mahamaya Self Help Group of the area lodged a complaint with Marine Police.

The irate villagers have also demanded immediate arrest of the wrongdoers as it is the fourth such incident that came to the fore in the last two months.
