Bhubaneswar: The shop owners of Market Building at Unit II in Bhubaneswar have threatened to close down the complex for indefinite period and launch agitation if the BMC fails to take steps on unauthorised vendors in the area.
Pradyumna Kumar Jena, president of Unit II Central Market Association said the vendors have virtually seized the Market Building by setting up their temporary stalls. Besides crowding the place, they were causing pollution by dumping the garbage, he added.
“Though the owners of permanent shops have taken up the matter with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) several times, no step has been taken to resolve it. In order to draw the attention of the civic authorities, we have decided to close our shops for indefinite period if the issue is not settled within three days,” said Jena.
Joint secretary of the Association Ranjit Kumar Mohanty said the shop owners and their familie would stage dharna in front of the houses of Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange as part of their protest against indifference to the vendors menace.
