Bhubaneswar:  The Odisha government has appointed Siba Prasad Samantaray as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) for a period of one year.

Samantaray previously worked as East Coast Railway’s Chief Project Director (Bridge Works).

Special Secretary of Housing and Urban Department, Prasanna Kumar Sarangi, has also been appointed as the General Manager (Administration) of BMRC.

Notably, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), consultant of the project, has begun geotechnical investigation to assess the strength of soil before construction of structures for Bhubaneswar metro rail project. The DMRC has collected soil samples from different places between Trisulia, Nandankanan and the city airport. Following the tests, it will prepare the detailed project report (DPR).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had made an announcement about the metro rail project on April 1, on the occasion of Utkal Dibasa. In the first phase, around 30 km (from Trisulia in Cuttack to Biju Patnaik International Airport here) will be covered. It will also connect with Jatni and Khurda. Subsequently, the proposed metro train service will be be extended to Puri, which will connect the pilgrim town with Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin cities.
