Raipur: Two sisters were gang-raped in the Chhattisgarh capital when they were returning after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with their cousin.
Police acted promptly on receiving information and arrested all 10 perpetrators after registering a case against them.
Among the accused is Poonam Thakur, the son of local BJP leader Laxmi Narayan Singh’s son.
According to police, three of the accused first intercepted the victims and allegedly robbed them of cash and their mobile phones. Seven others then arrived at the spot on four motorcycles.
The accused took the two sisters to an isolated place away from the main road and allegedly raped them. The man accompanying the two girls was also subjected to severe physical violence.
The incident took place near RIMS Medical College.
Many of the accused, including the BJP leader’s son, have a history of criminal activities.
Thakur was released on bail a few weeks ago.
