Bhubaneswar: Director General, Fire Services, Satyajit Mohanty felicitated six firemen of Odisha for donating plasma for COVID-19 patients on Thursday.
The six firemen are Ajaya Kumar Kabi, Tofan Pattanayak, Rajesh Kumar Behera, Susant Sekhar Das, Prashanta Kumar Kabi and Ranjeet Kumar Nayak.
A total of 372 firefighters were sent to the neighbouring state of West Bengal for Cyclone Amphan restoration work and 192 of them had tested positive for the virus on their return.
Odisha reported its first recovery through plasma therapy on July 24 when a 48-year-old woman of Cuttack was cured at Ashwini COVID Hospital in Cuttack. Odisha is the third state to start the convalescent plasma therapy procedure.
Convalescent plasma therapy involves the use of antibodies from the blood of patients, who have recovered from COVID-19, to treat other infected people.
