Malkangiri: Six Maoists, including four women, were killed on Monday morning after heavy exchange of fire between security forces and Left-wing extremists on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border near Malkangiri.
Police said the gun-battle between Greyhound jawans, led by the Kothagudem SP, lasted over two hours.
Acting on Intelligence inputs that Maoists had set up camps in the nearby jungles, a combing operation was launched by the security forces.
After the security forces surrounded them, the Maoists opened fire, sources said. Six Maoists were killed in retaliatory firing by the security forces. Police said Maoist literature was seized from the spot.
