Sambalpur: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of the Mahanadi, the authorities of the Hirakud Dam on Wednesday opened six more sluice gates.
Chief Engineer of Hirakud Dam Anand Chandra Sahu informed that the water level of the dam at 9 am was 628.10 feet against the full reservoir level of 630 feet while the inflow and outflow of the floodwater were 2,68,081 cusecs and 1,26,551 cusecs respectively.
The discharge of the floodwaters in the lower catchments was 4.71 lakh cusecs at Khairmal, 5,54,250 cusecs at Barmul and 6,37,585 cusecs at Mundali, he added.
A total of 12 gates have been opened so far to discharge the flootwaters.
According to the state Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the Mahanadi was flowing near the danger mark at Naraj, Devi at Alipingal, Ib at Sundargarh, Brahmani at Panposh and Jenapur and Subarnarekha at Rajghat.
On the other hand, the water level of Jalaka has further gone up to 6.54 metres at Mathani against the danger mark of 5.5 metres.
