Berhampur: Panic gripped passengers of Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express near Berhampur railway station after they saw smoke billowing from the bottom of a coach.
The passengers then got off the train after pulling the chain.
A Railway official later clarified that the smoke was not due to any mishap but brake binding as a sack had got stuck in a wheel of coach S 10 of the train. “We have removed the sack from the wheel and also used fire extinguisher. The train halted for around 15-20 minutes,” the official said, adding that a thorough check will be carried out at Berhampur station.
Notably, three coaches of Falaknuma Express had caught fire while the train was crossing Yadadri district of Telangana on July 7.
