Bengaluru: The mysterious loud sound that was heard in the eastern part of Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon has been confirmed to have come from supersonic IAF test flight.
The Bengaluru Division of Ministry of Defence tweeted that the IAF aircraft was on a routine test and was flying in the allotted airspace well outside city limits.
The sonic boom was probably heard while the aircraft was decelerating from supersonic to subsonic speed between 36,000 and 40,000 feet altitude, the PRO of Ministry of Defence in Bengaluru explained.
The official twitter handle also added that such a boom can be felt when the aircraft is flying as far away as 65 to 80 kilometres from the person.
