Keonjhar: Forest department officials on Monday launched a rescue operation after 27 wild boars were found in an abandoned well in a farmland in Balabhadrapur beat of Naranpur section in Odisha’s Keonjhar range.
The matter came to the fore after a few locals spotted the wild boars this morning.
According to sources, an excavator was used to dig the well and create a ram to allow the boars walk out to safety. However, 26 wild boars could be saved as one of them died while being stuck in the abandoned well and and released back into the forest.
It is being suspected that the sounder of wild boars strayed into the village to feed on the paddy last night but fell into the well since it was pitch dark there. “A young boar might have fallen into the well first, causing the rest of the members to dive in to rescue the stranded boarlet,” ACF Keonjhar Ashok Kumar Das told a national daily.
A local said that luckily there was no water in the well.
