Bhubaneswar: Odisha may see the onset of southwest monsoon in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its bulletin on Wednesday morning.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral & Northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar during next 24 hours.”
Notably, Odisha has been experiencing pre-monsoon showers since Tuesday and mercury dipped in many parts of the state on Wednesday with only two places – Balangir and Titlagarh – recording a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more.

“The rainfall activity has increased as the flow of moisture and pre-monsoon clouds from the east has strengthened towards Odisha. The monsoon is expected to advance into some parts of South Odisha in 24 hours,” IMD, Bhubaneswar, scientist Umasankar Das told the media.
Nabrangpur received 46.2 mm rainfall, Nayagarh 31 mm and Daringbadi 26 mm between 8.30 am and 5,30 pm on Wednesday.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in North Interior Odisha, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Balasore and Bhadrak during the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely at many places in Interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam and at a few places in the remaining parts of the state.
