Berhampur: The doctors of MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district gave a new lease of life to two persons after successfully conducting surgery on their spinal cords.
According to sources, the two persons had been rendered immobile due to injuries sustained in the spinal cord in separate mishaps.
Tutu Nayak of Sikharpada in Ganjam district was injured after he fell from the roof of his house. As his spinal cord was affected in the incident, his two legs stopped functioning. He was admitted in MKCG Hospital last month.
After conducting necessary tests, a team of doctors led by head of the department of orthopaedic surgery performed surgery on Nayak for 7 hours. Following the surgery, he is now able to move his legs.
Similarly, Padma Charan of Balugaon of Khurda was paralysed from below the waist following a mishap on June 26. He was also admitted to the hospital where the surgeons of the department successfully performed surgery on his spinal cord for 5 hours.
Prof Chandrasekhar Pradhan, the head of department of orthopaedic surgery, told the media persons that successful surgery on spinal cord of the two patients has established the efficiency of the doctors and surgeons of the hospital.
“With advanced and latest technology and infrastructure, we are able to treat complicated cases. I want to appeal to the patients not to go for expensive treatment in private hospitals as we can provide all necessary services in our hospital,” he said.
