Bhubaneswar: Odisha government will observe International Yoga Day on June 21 with community participation all over the state.
This was revealed during a review by Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services Suryabanshi Suraj on the preparations for the Yoga Day at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The minister directed the officials to organise the Yoga Day in prominent and historical places of the state. Besides, he discussed on arrangements to observe the day in district headquarters, blocks and municipal areas to create awareness and further popularise Yoga.
Reviewing the sports infrastructure and facilities in the stadium, the minister said the government was committed to develop the sports and promote the state’s sportspersons to international level. “Odisha has created a special place for itself in international sports for the achievement of its sportspersons in different disciplines. We will continue to encourage the young talents and focus on the promotion of sports at grassroots level,” he added.
Suraj further said a roadmap has been prepared to place the state in the international map of sports to celebrate 100 years of formation of Odisha as a separate state in 2026.
Sports secretary R Vineel Krishna highlighted the state government’s efforts in development of sports infrastructure in the previous years.
The minister also interacted with the athletes and inmates of sports hostels during the visit and enquired about training and the facilities extended to them.
