Jeypore: Decomposed body of a senior revenue assistant was recovered from her official quarters at Baipariguda block colony in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sandhyarani Nayak.
According to sources, Sandhyarani was staying alone in the quarters. The incident came to the fore after neighbours alerted the police about the stench emanating from the room. A team of police led by Baipariguda IIC Susant Satpathy reached the spot and broke open the door only to find her hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.
It is being suspected that she died by suicide about a week ago. The incident came to the light later since neighbours were out of station for Durga Puja festivities.
While the reason as to why Sandhyarani took the extreme step is still unclear, police have seized the body and sent it for postmortem.
