Bhubaneswar: Sruti Mohapatra, disability rights campaigner from Odisha, will be conferred with the Nari Shakti Puraskar on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.
She is among 29 people to be given the prestigious award for the years 2020 and 2021. The award ceremony for 2020 could not be held last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The felicitation ceremony will be part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrating 75 years of Indian independence.
President Ram Nath Kovind will give away the awards at a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in an interactive session with the recipients.
Nari Shakti Puraskar is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development to recognise the exceptional contribution made by women and celebrate women as catalysts of positive change in society.
The winners for 2020 are from diverse fields like entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, art and craft, STEMM and wildlife conservation. The winners for 2021 are from fields like linguistics, entrepreneurship, agriculture, social work, art and craft, Merchant Navy, STEMM, education and literature and disability rights.
