Cuttack: Body of a newborn was recovered from Manguli Chhak in Choudwar of Cuttack district on Wednesday morning.
Locals spotted the body and immediately alerted the police.
According to available information, the body of the abandoned newborn was badly mauled by crows and stray dogs.
After arriving at the spot, police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, locals and police suspect that the child was abandoned by its parents immediately after birth.
Efforts are on to trace the parents of the baby, police sources said.
