Berhampur: The students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district, who have created a niche for themselves by creating beautiful artifacts from wastes, performed a theme dance on ‘moon’ with scrap for the first time.
Six girl and two boy students of different trades including fitter, electrician and copa of the ITI, which is managed by the state government, performed the dance wearing dresses and shoes studded with waste computer keyboards. It was choreographed by Sandhyarani Padhy, Instructor of Surveyor in the ITI.
“The students had earlier walked on the ramp with dresses studded with waste materials in a fashion show at Bhubaneswar. But it was a great challenge for all of us to mix the fashion from scrap with a theme dance on moon,” said Sandhyarani who also choreographed the new dance concept for the first time.
The students took 3 days for rehearsal. The soul of the dance was imagination, emotion and reality, she added.
The entire presentation was dedicated to the Chandrayaan Mission-3. Conceptualised by Sudipta Panigrahi, it was produced by Hrusikesh Panigrahi, while music rendered by M Madhab Patro and the songs sung by Hrusikesh Panigrahi and Sunil Patnaik.
“The dance revolved around the feelings of moon for the children, how the moon reflects the attitude among the youngsters and the general feeling after we achieved access to the moon after landing of Chandrayan-3 on its surface,” said producer Hrusikesh.
The concept was quite interesting and appealing, said Rajat Kumar Panigrahi, principal of the ITI, popularly known as ‘Scrap Man of Odisha’ who was also felicitated on the occasion.
Panigrahi is the brain behind the concept of waste to wealth in ITI having six Asia Book of Records and national records to his name. There are 500 artifacts of different sizes made from scrap material that exist in the ITI campus. A ‘Scrap Museum’ was also opened during 2017.
