Cuttack: The students of Ravenshaw University, here, have been sitting on dharna in front of the main gate of the campus since Tuesday demanding withdrawal of vice-chancellor’s decision to close three gates from 6 pm to 8 am everyday.
The agitating students said due to the decision, the students have to walk nearly 2 km to go out of the campus through the fourth gate opening to Chhatra Bazaar. The gate number 1, 2 and 3 remain closed after evening everyday and totally closed on Sunday and holidays.
Since other gates open to College Square market where the students can purchase their necessary materials, they said there is no reason for keeping those closed. Terming it as an ‘irresponsible’ decision, they said the security of the students and their relatives is under threat.
In order to prevent outsiders from entering the campus, the university can appoint security guards at the gates to check the identity cards of the visitors, they said.
Stating that the vice-chancellor was violating the human rights of the students, they demanded him to solve the problem through discussion, failing which they threatened to intensify their agitation.
