Balasore: Students of a government-run high school in Balasore have gone for an indefinite strike on Saturday as they opposed the transfer of three teachers in a single day.
The agitating Janardan High School students in Barbatia under the Bhograi block appealed to the district education office to revoke the transfer orders of Mathematics, Hindi and Science teachers on the day.
“Due to the transfer of these trained graduate teachers (TGTs), we have been left in the lurch as exams are drawing near. Besides cancelling the transfer orders, the department should also fill up vacant posts of a headmaster, clerk and three peons in the school,” students Dibyajoti Priyadarshani Patra and Sagarika Bhuyan were quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
TGT Arun Kumar Mohanty has been in charge of the school as headmaster for three years now, the newspaper’s sources said. The school has 150 students.
Irked at the transfers, the guardians submitted a memorandum to District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy seeking his intervention in the matter.
According to Bhograi MLA Ananta Das, he will ask the district education officer (DEO) Bishnu Charan Sutar to look into the matter.
