Bhubaneswar: A rare celestial conjunction between the biggest planet in the solar system, Jupiter, and Earth’s mysterious twin Venus at a closest distance of only 0.5 degrees was visible in the western sky in Odisha capital after sunset on Wednesday.

The Pathani Samant Planetarium in Bhubaneswar had earlier informed that the two planets will be seen closest to each other on March 1. Jupiters could be spotted above Venus in the evening from 6.15 pm to 7 pm in naked eyes in the city.

The two planets, which were about 29 degrees apart at the beginning of February, gradually moved closer and were separated by 5 degrees on Monday before getting extremely close to each other with a distance of 0.52 degrees this evening. Venus was seen above Venus on February 28.

The two planets had formed a trifecta on the evening of February 21 and 22 with the Moon in the skies.

This planetary conjunction happens about once every 13 months.
