Paradip: The sub-contractors, who carried out construction work of a plant of IOCL, on Friday staged a dharna in front of the company’s main gate, here demanding payment of their dues.
The agitating cub-contractors said though they have completed the construction work of the IOCL plant two years back, they were yet to be paid the dues towards it.
One of the sub-contractors, Anant Swain said the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) had issued work order for construction of its PP plant to China-based agency China Kunlun Contracting and Engineering Corporation (CKCEC).
As many as 11 sub-contractors of Paradip and nearby areas in Jagatsinghpur district had taken up the work from the CKCEC on contract basis. But the CKCEC did not clear their dues amounting to Rs 12 crore after completion of the work.
Swain further said in 2019, the sub-contractors gheraoed the CKCEC officials demanding payment of their dues. At the time, the IOCL had assured them of clearing their unpaid amount. But the company is yet to make any payment till date, he added.
The sub-contractors, who are sitting on dharna along with their labourers, threatened that if the IOCL fails to clear their dues, they would resort to economic blockade in the Port Town.
