Bhubaneswar: In order to help the students catch up with studies, hampered due to COVID induced lockdown, the state government has announced that summer vacation of schools will be reduced to 10 days this year.

The School and Mass Education department, in a notification on Saturday, stated that the schools will remain closed due to summer vacation from June 6 to 16. As a result, the vacation has been brought down to 10 days instead of usual 50 days.

The department has also announced revision in morning classes of schools. The morning classes will be held from 6 am to 9 am every working days. It will remain in effect from May 1 to June 5.

It may be noted that the schools had remained closed due to COVID induced lockdown in the state for the last two years. The students had been givens class promotion without appearing at examinations. Though the schools were holding online classes, there were complaints about its effectiveness.

Considering these factors, the government has drawn up a strategy to help the students, who missed out on studies in previous years, catch up with previous years’ courses, sources said.
