Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday picked 1987-batch IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal among the three shortlisted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha.
He will replace DGP Abhay, who is due to retire on December 31.
According to the government notification, Bansal will head the police force in Odisha for a period of two years.
Bansal is currently serving as Special Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Mumbai and has been on central deputation since 2005. He is due to superannuate in June 2022.
Besides Bansal, the UPSC had reportedly shortlisted Pradeep Kapur and Manoj Chhabra from among aspirants for the post of the next Odisha DGP.
