Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday busted the chain snatching gang with the arrest of four people.
Eight gold chains, two motorcycles, as many cell phones and sharp weapons were seized from their possession.
The gang was behind a series of chain snatching incidents reported from different parts of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in the past two months, the police said.
Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda informed that the accused were members of notorious chain snatching gang based in Gujarat’s Surat.
The kingpin of the gang is Subhas Pradhan. Subhas, along with his associate Amit Sarangi, was operating the gang.
“He was out on bail when Subhas escaped to Surat and returned to Odisha some months back,” said Panda.
The members of the Surat gang were involved in multiple cases in Surat and in Odisha. The gang is involved in at least nine cases in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the CP added.
