Paradip: Paradip Marine Police on Thursday shifted the suspected ‘spy pigeon’, which was caught with a mini camera and a microchip fitted to its legs and some coded messages on its wings, to the Pigeon and Dog Squad of the state police in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
Besides, the camera and the microchip have been sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar to confirm if it was meant for spying and its origin. Investigation is underway and further details are awaited.
Experts of the pigeon and dog squad are said to be examining the bird to ascertain whether it was trained for spying and its nativity. However, it is not clear if it will be rehabilitated there, sources added.
Notably, the pigeon had perched on a fishing boat in the mid-sea off the Konark coast in Puri district about 10 days ago and was handed over to the Paradip Marine Police on Wednesday.
Some messages were written in a foreign language on its wings.
Confirming the news, Jagatsinghpur SP Rahul PR had said that help of experts will be sought to decipher the text. “We will produce the pigeon with all the material before a cyber expert to find out the truth,” Paradip ASP, Nimai Charan Sethi told news agency ANI.
