Bengaluru: A Karnataka police constable, suspecting his wife of being involved in an extra-marital affair, travelled 230 kilometres to her parents’ place and strangled her to death at Hoskote, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Kishore D, the 32-year-old constable, then tried to commit suicide by consuming insecticide and is in a critical condition.
He and Pratibha, 24, got married in November 2022 and were blessed with a baby boy just 11 days before the latter’s murder.
According to police, Kishore was suspicious about Prathiba being in relationships and often scrutinised her messages and call records. He inquired about every person who communicated with her and alleged that she was close to a couple of her college friends.
On a Sunday, Kishore called up Prathiba and abused her. Her mother intervened and disconnected the call, saying that the newborn’s health will be adversely affected if she was in distress and advised her not to answer Kishore’s calls.
On Monday, Prathiba discovered that Kishore had called her 150 times and informed her parents.
A furious Kishore set off from Chamarajanagar town to Hoskote, where he around 11.30 am.
According to the FIR, Kishore consumed insecticide, went to the room where Pratibha and the child was, and locked the room.
He strangled Prathiba with a dupatta and remained in the room for some time, police said.
Pratibha’s mother got no response on knocking on the door. Kishore came out after nearly 15 minutes, shouting, “Kondu bitte avalna, kondu bitte (I killed her, I killed her).”
Police said Kishore will be taken into custody once he is discharged from hospital.
