Delhi: Actress Swara Bhasker, known to speak her mind on various socio-political and controversial issues, is in a happy space right now.
Having won the Best Actress award in a Supporting Role at the Soho London Independent Film Festival for her performance in ‘Sheer Qorma’, Swara has revealed that she will be embracing motherhood by adopting a child.
In fact, she has already signed up as a prospective adoptive parent with Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) after celebrating Diwali with young girls at an orphanage in Delhi.
The 33-year-old actress is currently on the waiting list, and she may have to wait for three years till her turn comes.
Swara, who was reported to be in a relationship with writer Himanshu Sharma sometime back, did a lot of research before applying. “My parents were fully supportive of my decision. I know the waiting period is long, often as long as three years, but I can’t wait to be a parent to a child through adoption,” she said.
“I’ve always wanted a family and children. I realised that adoption was a way to marry these things. Luckily in India, the state allows single women to adopt. I met many couples who have adopted children, met some children who were adopted and are now almost adults. I read up on the process and experience,” Swara said in an interview with Mid-Day.
Swara took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce her award for the role in the same-sex love story Sheer Qorma, which also stars Divya Dutta and Shabana Azmi.
