Guwahati: ‘The Kashmir Files’ is the talk of India. After several states like Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Tripura, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Uttarakhand made the movie tax-free, another BJP-ruled state has made a novel announcement.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma declared a half-day special leave for all government staff in the north-eastern state to watch ‘The Kashmir Files’.

To avail of this special leave, government employees will have to inform their superior officers and submit the film’s tickets the following day.

The CM clarified that Assam does not have any entertainment tax, so a tax waiver made no sense.

The film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency.

Biswa Sarma was all praise for the movie after watching it with his Cabinet colleagues and MLAs on Tuesday.

“The Kashmiri Pandit genocide and their exodus are a blot on humanity. Moved by the heart-wrenching portrayal of their plight in The Kashmir Files, which I watched along with my Cabinet colleagues and MLAs and Assam BJP and allies,” Biswa Sarma tweeted.
